Our History
The Elphinstone Aero Club, got established in 1956 as a non-profit society, with the mission to promote flying and recreational aviation, particularly on the Sunshine Coast. We aim to raise awareness of the club's role in supporting the broader Sunshine Coast community. Our Club operates and maintains aircraft and facilities for the mutual benefit of its members on a non-profit sharing basis.
The airport terminal, is open to the flying public and transient aircrews. It provides a lounge, washrooms, and amenities like a computer and telephone for flight planning.
The club was founded In order to build an airstrip on the Sechelt Peninsula. Appropriate level land got sought out, assembled and cleared by the volunteer members of the Club, using donated equipment and materials.
Today, the Sunshine Coast Regional Airport is home to many businesses and organizations, employing many local residents.

First Landing into Sechelt AirportThe first aircraft to land on the new airstrip was a Canadian-made Fleet Canuck, registered CF-DPG and operated by Roy Brett. Later, the airstrip's ownership transitioned to the Villages of Sechelt and Gibsons to secure federal funding for runway paving. Today, the Sunshine Coast Regional Airport hosts various businesses and organizations, contributing to local employment opportunities.
